In this chapter, you create a target Aurora PostgreSQL database to migrate the data from mainframe VSAM files. Amazon Aurora is a relational database service that combines the speed and availability of high-end commercial databases with the simplicity and cost-effectiveness of open source databases. It is designed to offer greater than 99.99% availability, replicating 6 copies of your data across 3 Availability Zones and backing up your data continuously. It also delivers up to 3X the throughput of standard PostgreSQL running on the same hardware. It enables existing PostgreSQL applications and tools to run without requiring modification.
To migrate the data from VSAM’s to Aurora PostgreSQL, you will be using the Blusam administration console (bac), which is the Blu Age VSAM console to create, upload, browse and modify the database. At the same time, data can be filtered and browsed using different masks.
