Disk Geometry Configuration

  1. Ensure that Source and Target console sessions are side by side as shown below.

  1. If you are in the partition utility, type quit to go back to the format utility, then enter current. This process needs to be done in both Source and Target console sessions.

By looking at the output of the current command, we can see that the active disk in both systems is c0t1d0. This represents Controller 0, SCSI id 1, device 0. The other outputs from the command are described below.

The Target disks are raw devices allocated to the Linux environment with default disk geometry information. Therefore, the geometry on the Target environment will need to be configured to match the Source environment.

  1. On the Target console session, enter type within the format utility to define the disk and configure its geometry. The Source drive is a WESTERN-AC14300-0200 drive and not displayed as an option in the format utility of the Target environment, therefore enter option 16.

  1. Configure the remaining Target disk attributes (cylinders, alternate cylinders, heads, and sectors per cylinder) to match the Source environment as outlined in the table below.
